DVLA implements doorstep service to sweep operation of “goro” boys


“Goro boys” refers to intermediaries that claim to assist drivers, riders and operators to acquire or renew their old license’s. Acquiring a driver and vehicle license authorities document through the goro boys or the intermediaries is unacceptable due to illegalities involved. They are mostly confidence trickster’s that use various means to extort monies from their victims with pretence of securing them with licenses. These goro boys end up in producing fake/counterfeited documents that contains forged signatures for their victims. Those who fall in the hands of these goro boys are unable to differentiate between the fake document until they are caught up by the unit of DVLA and Ghana Police Service, This, according to Bernert Yaovi was amongst the reasons why the DVLA has initiated a decentralised licencing programme to ease the difficulties drivers, riders and operators goes through in getting genuine documents. Mr. Bernert Yaovi is one of the field liaison officers for DVLA. He tells this blogger the integrity of a license holders is at stake if the holder has passed through unapproved sources to have his/her license done.According to Mr. Yaovi, the office is now processing all the categories of the licenses on the field as well as migrating from the old system to issuing the modern one. Any Ghanaian with from the age of eighteen with sound mind without any disability contrary to DVLA criteria can apply for a license because is a constitutional right. He said. According to him, they have succeeded in reaching their clients in Districts and municipals in Greater Accra and Eastern Region. He mentioned Ningo-Prapram, Shai-Osudoku – Asutsuare, Amansaman, Yilo Krobo, Manya Krobo, Klo Agogo, Asesewa, Aburi, Dodowa and they have now targeted Ada East and West Districts.
