Ada Queens opt for a woman to take the guest of honour position for 2019 Asafotufiami festival


Queen mothers of Ada are working closely with the political heads of the twin districts of Ada to get the first lady to attend this years asafotufiami festival of the Ada Traditional area. The festival which falls in the first week of August every year create a platform for the traditional and political leadership to hear from each other

The move by the Queen mother of Ada to invite the first lady is part of the advocacy for inclusion of women in all levels of the governance system. STAR Ghana Foundation is supporting Radio Ada in a women empowerment project in Ada Area. The goal of the project is to see women of Ada uniting for development, taking leadership roles in the community as well as total representation at all levels. The women think there is the need to bring more women in leadership role on board for the realisation of the vision. A key player has been identified and no other person than the first lady of the Republic of Ghana Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo. Going by the protocol, a delegation by the queen mothers have been meeting with the District Chief Executives to assist to officially invite the first Lady to this years Asafotufiami festival as the guest of honour. Women of Ada in 2017 presented a declaration to Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo after they celebrated their maiden rural women’s day at Big Ada to add her voice to the advocacy for inclusion and equal rights in governance and the decision making process. According to them her attendance will be remarkable in the history of the festival and also, will be the first time for a woman to take the position as guest of honour in the history of the festival. The DCE for Ada East Hon. Serah Dugbakie Pobbe who sent the petition to the office of the first lady assured the queen mothers of her commitment of leading them to the office of the first lady for the invite. The District Chief Executive for Ada West, Hon. Adjotye Lawer Akrofi in a separate meeting with the Queens assured her support in inviting Mrs Rebacca Akufo Addo.
